Sesame Breadsticks Recipe
Sesame breadsticks are a tasty and easy-to-make snack or appetizer that are sure to satisfy any cravings for something savory and crunchy. Made with just a few simple ingredients, these breadsticks are soft and chewy on the inside and crispy on the outside, with a delicious sesame flavor that pairs well with dips and sauces. This recipe yields about 12-15 breadsticks, but you can easily double or triple the batch to feed a crowd.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 cup sesame seeds
- 1 egg, beaten
- Additional sesame seeds, for topping
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Stir in the warm water and olive oil, using a wooden spoon or your hands to mix the dough until it is well combined and forms a smooth ball.
- Cover the dough with a clean cloth or plastic wrap and set it aside to rise for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick. Cut the dough into thin strips, about 1/2 inch wide, and place the strips on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the breadsticks with the beaten egg and sprinkle them with sesame seeds. Bake the breadsticks for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Serve the breadsticks hot, with your favorite dips or sauces, such as marinara sauce, ranch dressing, or hummus.
Tips:
- For a different twist on the flavor, you can use black sesame seeds or a mixture of white and black sesame seeds on the breadsticks.
- To make the breadsticks more savory, you can sprinkle them with garlic powder, onion powder, or other herbs and spices before baking them.
- If you don't have active dry yeast, you can use instant yeast or a combination of baking powder and baking soda as a leavening agent. Just be sure to adjust the amount of liquid in the dough accordingly.
- For a softer and more pillowy texture, you can brush the breadsticks with melted butter or olive oil before baking them.
- To store the breadsticks, you can wrap them in foil or plastic wrap and keep them at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze them for up to 3 months. To reheat the breadsticks, you can place them in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for about 5-10 minutes, or until they are warm and crispy.
