Crostini Recipe
Crostini are a type of Italian appetizer that are made with small slices of toasted bread and a variety of toppings. They are a great way to use up stale bread and can be customized to suit your taste preferences. This recipe is for a classic crostini with tomato, basil, and mozzarella, but you can easily adapt it to use your favorite toppings.
Ingredients:
- 1 baguette, sliced into 1/4-inch slices
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 pint cherry tomatoes, sliced
- 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, sliced or grated
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Arrange the baguette slices on the prepared baking sheet. Brush both sides of the slices with the olive oil. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the slices are crispy and golden brown.
- Top the crostini with the cherry tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and chopped basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Broil the crostini for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Alternatively, you can use a blowtorch to melt the cheese.
- Serve the crostini immediately, while they are still warm. They can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, but they are best when served fresh.
Tips:
- Feel free to experiment with different toppings for your crostini. Some popular options include cured meats, vegetables, spreads, and cheese. You can also add herbs or spices to give the crostini more flavor.
- If you don't have a baguette on hand, you can use any type of crusty bread for your crostini. Ciabatta, sourdough, or a rustic Italian loaf would all work well.
- You can also use a grill or a stovetop griddle to toast the bread for your crostini. Simply brush the bread with olive oil and grill or griddle for 1-2 minutes on each side, or until it is crispy and golden brown.
