How to Make Basic Tiramisu
Tiramisu is a classic Italian dessert made with layers of fluffy mascarpone cream and coffee-soaked ladyfingers. It's the perfect balance of creamy and crunchy, and it's sure to be a hit with your friends and family.
Ingredients:
- 4 egg yolks
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup mascarpone cheese
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup strong brewed coffee
- 1/4 cup Kahlua (optional)
- 1 package ladyfingers
- unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
Instructions:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until well combined. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl, beat the mascarpone cheese and heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gently fold the mascarpone mixture into the egg yolk mixture until fully combined.
- In a shallow dish, mix together the coffee and Kahlua (if using). Dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture for a few seconds, being sure not to soak them too much. You want them to be moist, but not soggy.
- Arrange a single layer of coffee-soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture on top of the ladyfingers. Repeat with another layer of ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. This will give the flavors time to meld and the ladyfingers time to soften.
- Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with cocoa powder. Cut into squares and serve chilled.
Tips:
- If you don't have Kahlua, you can use rum or any other coffee-flavored liqueur.
- You can also use espresso instead of strong coffee, if you prefer a more intense coffee flavor.
- To make this recipe even easier, you can use store-bought whipped cream instead of making your own by beating heavy cream.
With its creamy layers of mascarpone and crunchy ladyfingers, this basic tiramisu recipe is a surefire hit. Plus, it's easy to make and can be customized to your tastes with different liqueurs and coffee flavors. So why wait? Give it a try and enjoy a taste of Italy in your own home!
