Wonton Recipe

Wontons are a popular Chinese dumpling that are enjoyed all over the world. They are made with a thin, delicate wrapper and a flavorful filling of meat, seafood, or vegetables. Wontons can be boiled, fried, or steamed, and they are often served in soups or with dipping sauces. This recipe is for boiled wontons, but you can easily adapt it to suit your preferred cooking method and filling ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped Napa cabbage
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 package wonton wrappers

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the ground pork, cabbage, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, and ginger until well combined.
  2. Lay out a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Place a small spoonful of the filling in the center of the wrapper. Wet the edges of the wrapper with a little water. Fold the wrapper in half diagonally to form a triangle, pressing the edges together to seal the wonton.
  3. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the wontons to the pot and cook for 3-4 minutes, or until they are cooked through. Remove the wontons from the pot with a slotted spoon and drain them on a paper towel.
  4. Serve the wontons hot, with your choice of dipping sauces or as part of a soup. They can also be frozen for later use. To freeze, place the cooked wontons in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid. Transfer the frozen wontons to a sealable bag and store in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Tips:

  • Feel free to experiment with different filling ingredients for your wontons. Some popular options include shrimp, chicken, beef, tofu, and vegetables such as mushrooms and bok choy.
  • You can also add spices and herbs to the filling to give it more flavor. Try using minced garlic, chili flakes, or cilantro.
  • To fry the wontons, heat a few inches of oil in a deep fryer or a heavy pot to 375°F (190°C). Carefully add the wontons to the hot oil and fry for 1-2 minutes, or until they are golden brown. Remove the wontons from the oil with a slotted spoon and drain them on a paper towel.
  • To steam the wontons, fill a steamer basket with water and bring it to a boil. Place the wontons in the steamer basket and steam for 8-10 minutes, or until they are cooked through. Be sure to check the water level in the steamer and refill as needed.
I hope you enjoy this recipe.
