Miracle Baklava Recipe

Miracle Baklava Recipe

Baklava is a rich and indulgent dessert that is popular in many countries in the Middle East and the Mediterranean. It is made by layering sheets of phyllo dough with a mixture of chopped nuts and sweetened with a honey or syrup. It is a labor of love to make, but the end result is worth it.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound phyllo dough, thawed according to package instructions
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups finely chopped nuts (such as almonds, pistachios, or walnuts)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together the chopped nuts, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
  3. Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with some of the melted butter.
  4. Unroll the phyllo dough and cut it to fit the size of your baking dish. Cover the phyllo with a damp cloth to prevent it from drying out as you work.
  5. Place two sheets of phyllo in the bottom of the prepared dish. Brush the top of the phyllo with melted butter.
  6. Sprinkle a thin layer of the nut mixture over the buttered phyllo.
  7. Repeat the process of layering two sheets of phyllo and brushing them with butter, followed by a sprinkle of the nut mixture until you have used up all of the nut mixture.
  8. Top the baklava with the remaining sheets of phyllo, brushing each one with butter as you go. Be sure to brush the very top layer well with butter.
  9. Use a sharp knife to cut the baklava into diamonds or squares, cutting all the way through to the bottom of the dish.
  10. Bake the baklava for 45-50 minutes, or until it is golden brown.
  11. While the baklava is baking, make the syrup by combining the water, honey, sugar, and lemon juice in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
  12. When the baklava is finished baking, pour the hot syrup over the top. Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving.

Tips:

  • The key to successful baklava is to work quickly and keep the phyllo dough covered with a damp cloth at all times to prevent it from drying out.
  • You can use a variety of different nuts in this recipe. Feel free to mix and match to your liking.
  • If you prefer a softer, more gooey baklava, reduce the baking time to 35-40 minutes. If you prefer a firmer, more well-done baklava, increase the baking time to 55-60 minutes.
  • The baklava will keep for up to a week stored in an airtight container at room temperature.
  • I hope you enjoy this recipe for delicious and indulgent baklava. Happy baking!
